Brian Hastings

We decided that it would be interesting to take a look back over the past week of poker and sound off on what's hot and what's not. This week we Brian Hastings 'will go intoWorld Poker Tour win, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow of new voice, and the WPT Legends of Poker.

On a heating system

Brian Hastings WINS WPT regional event: On Monday, August 22, 2011 the Twitterverse was fascinated by a WPT event Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Florida. What made this remarkable was that it wasn't a big WPT stop, but rather the $ 2,200 buy-in WPT regional Summer Splash Event # 12 Main Event. This regional stops are not on TV, and are more akin to World Series of Poker Circuitthe.

This past week Brian Hastings survived a field of 391 players and claimed the first-place prize of $ 213,877 and his first major live tournament title. By winning the event, to bring some well deserved attention to know Hastings the WPT of smaller circuit, that a huge victory for the WPT was because they were coming off of a record-setting season IX and even more changes set for their upcoming season. Griffin Malatino runner-up Had defeated Hastings, there would not have been so much excitement around the victory.

It is also worth noting that a number of other poker pros played the event, further cementing the reputation of both the WPT as Florida as a hotbed for poker. Darryl fish -$ 55,522 Jason Mercier (4th) and (23rd-$ 6,647) were some of the other notables who played and managed to find what success.

The WPT is constantly making headlines these days and will undoubtedly again its position as one of Poker's premiere tours. Although Hastings won the tournament, the big winner was the WPT in the Sunshine State.

"The mouth" Speaks Out: A few weeks back Poker After Dark , new episodes of a $ 100,000 Cash Gamefeaturing broadcast. Two of the participants, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow and Phil Hellmuth, was involved in a controversial hand that poker fans up in arms. I'm not going to lay out going on here, but you can read about it in our recap or view it below.

I was one of the viewers shocked by what transpired and even took on my personal blog to vent about the situation. I then posted a link on my Facebook, tagged Matusow, and was shocked to discover that he posted the following comment on my wall:

"Yeah well all those other guys do not play on their own money. They cheat and equity chop anyone online. I don't feel like playing $ 200 k pots. Are beautiful day. "

Not only was I surprised that Matusow took the time to comment on my blog, I was legitimate under the impression that he was addressing his game.

Matusow went on to address some of the other critics on his Facebook Wall, even say: "let everyone idolize Ivey. He plays on all of your money guys lol. " Say what you will about Matusow Full Tilt Poker , hinting at the situation- Phil Ivey is to call a ballsy move. Even though he is a former FTP Pro was pronounced a slanderer, Matusow of the company, which has earned him some credibility in the eyes of the masses. The mouth is a polarizing character, so it's refreshing to see him take a position and holds its ground, whether it be against FTP or critics of the now infamous hand.

What's more, Matusow is not afraid to tell the truth about his financial situation. Content to stick to his bankroll and variance to reduce as much as possible, the mouth posted on his Facebook page the following:

"I am actively looking for someone to play me full time on the tournament circuit. If anyone is interested you can private message me (do not if you're not serious). The reason for this is there's a lot of variance on the tour and I don't feel like going bust. Thank you all! "

This is certainly a different Matusow of what we have seen in the past, but on the basis of his honesty, humility and perseverance, the improved version of the Main Event final tablist in 2005. I say this, if I was rich, I would work from a strike deal with Matusow. He can only a fraction of its $ 7.825 million in lifetime earnings have left, but that should not be at the expense of his impressive resume.

I Want to Be McLean Karr: I'll keep this short and sweet. Less than two years ago, I McLean Karrhad never heard of, but now I can't stop hearing about the man. Earlier in the month, he won the HK $ 100,000 No Limit Hold'em High Roller Event Asian Poker Tournament King in the Macau for $ 103,808, and this week he notched another victory through a field of 181 players to win $ 74,706 in the $ 1,850 Parx Open Classic Main Eventoutlasting. That brought his life to income $2,088, 120!

Oh Yes Tatjana Pasalic , and he has been dating too! Not too shabby for a guy who will celebrate his Golden Novemeber 30th anniversary!

Major Cooler

East Coast vs West Coast: The WPT Legends of Poker started on Thursday with the first of two early days. Anticipation was high that the $ 3,500 buy-in event could be the biggest ever, surpassing WPT event Season IX Borgata Poker Open that the 1,042 attracted players Dwyte Pilgrimand was won by, especially given that day 1a eliminations were allowed the opportunity again on day 1b.

The first start day attracted a modest 322 players, while the second is a more impressive 435 players. Needless to say, the 757 players the way to the record. It was a beautiful thought, while it lasted, but of course the recession has sunk her fingers deep in the poker community. With that said, the Legends of Poker was far from a failure. On the contrary, it will prove to be one of the most popular stops of the year, just a little short of the record. No harm, no error, but a lesson in conservation anyway.
